The Deputy Director works with WACO Leadership to inform and advise long-term policy goals and direction of affiliates and the organization, providing comprehensive policy-level staffing assistance, including researching state and national policy trends and best practices affecting affiliate roles.
The Deputy Director closely monitors and tracks emerging and introduced state legislative proposals, sharing information with the Executive Director and affiliates as appropriate. This position holds primary responsibility for ensuring bill tracking lists and reports are comprehensive and up-to-date. The Deputy Director also monitor relevant Congressional action and other federal activity affecting county officials.
The Deputy Director manages the association in the absence of the Executive Director.
The Deputy Director may, optionally, also serve as General Counsel to the association. As General Counsel, the Deputy Director provides legal advice and representation to the WACO Board and Executive Director, serves as the “subject matter expert” on the legal and operational aspects of the executive branch of county government, and provides advice to support the orderly operation of the association by interpreting WACO bylaws and policies.
