[ARCHIVED] WACO Announces Five Scholarship Awardees

2018 Scholarship

The Washington Association of County Officials has announced the five individuals to receive the 2018/19 Washington counties Scholarship Fund award.


The Washington Association of County Officials administers the scholarship. The scholarship awards five eligible dependents of county employees or elected officials $3,000 annually. To date the organizations have awarded over $235,000 to deserving individuals.


"We are very excited to see so many high achieving individuals from geographically diverse parts of the state win this year," says Washington Association of County Officials Executive Director Scott Blonien, "It is a testament to the hard work and ambition of students throughout the state."


This year's recipients are Adin Bowers, Kitsap County; Mya Davis, Lewis County; Zachariah Fincher, San Juan County; Alexander Norris, Walla Walla County and Matthew Tucker, Kitsap County.


About the students:

Adin Bowers is a Kingston High School graduate. Adin will be attending Boise State University studying science and engineering with a focus on astrophysics. Adin is the son of Kitsap County Juvenile Court employee Lonna Bowers.


Mya Davis is a WF West High School graduate. Mya will be attending Seattle Pacific University studying nursing. Mya is the daughter of Lewis County Treasurer Arny Davis.


Zachariah Fincher is a Friday Harbor High School graduate. Zachariah will be attending the University of Washington studying medicine and biochemistry. Zachariah is the son of San Juan County Adult Probation Officer Bradley Fincher.


Alexander Norris is a Walla Walla High School graduate. Alexander Norris will be attending Oberlin College studying history and economics. Alexander is the son of Walla Walla County Department of Community Health Clinical Services Division Manager Laura Norris.


Matthew Tucker is a North Kitsap High School graduate. Matthew will be attending University of Washington studying bioengineering. Matthew is the son of Kitsap County Public Works Assistant Director David Tucker.
