Washington Association of County Officials celebrates the passage of SB 5187

The legislation streamlines the office of the county auditor

OLYMPIA – The Washington Association of County Officials released a statement celebrating the passage of SB 5187, which improves the efficiency of county auditors' offices by eliminating duplicate county inventories, standardizing commissioner reimbursement processes, and would end auditor duties in selection of a county’s newspaper of record, in air pollution control authority vacancy appointments, and in separate publication of certain fire protection district election results.

The bill received bi-partisan sponsorship from Senator Jan Angel (R – 26th Legislative District), Senator Dean Takko (D – 19th Legislative District), and Senator Judy Warnick (R – 13th Legislative District).

“This legislation modernizes the role of the county auditor,” said Washington Association of County Officials Executive Director Scott Blonien, “It clarifies several of the county auditors' statutory duties, making their offices more efficient for serving Washington residents. We thank the bill sponsors and the hard work of the legislators and staff that went into seeing this bill passed.”
