Remembering Rose Bowman
Former Lewis County Treasurer Rose Bowman passed away May 2, 2017.
Rose Bowman was born in Oklahoma and raised on a farm in Arkansas with her five siblings. Rose met Leon when her family moved back to Oklahoma. They were married in 1962 and settled in Lewis County Washington in 1965, raising three children. Rose was a proud graduate of Centralia College.
Rose served two terms in the Washington State House of Representatives. She was elected as the Lewis County Treasurer in 1994 and retired from public service in 2014.
Current Lewis County Treasurer Arny Davis said of Rose, "[She was] a true leader and community volunteer. She was often referred to as the fourth commissioner in Lewis County because of ability to lead and have a strong vision for a better Lewis County. Her efforts at volunteerism through Rotary were well known, both at the local and international levels. I am blessed to have known her and work with her. Her loss will leave a hard to fill hole in our community and she will be greatly missed by her many friends and family."
Rose was a long-serving Rotarian, serving many roles within Rotary including the 2015-16 Governor of Rotary District 5020. She often shared her story of delivering a school bus filled with wheelchairs to a village in Mexico and said it was the day she became a “True Rotarian”.
Rotary District 5020 has created a gofundme account to celebrate Rose, her way, by sending a bus loaded with wheelchairs and medical supplies to a small village in Mexico. Please take a moment to read about her amazing story and help if you can: https://www.gofundme.com/rememberrose
