WACO to host Legislative 101 Training

The political and legislative landscape of Washington state is ever changing. When adding the complications of 2020 to the mix, navigating the legislative process can become a daunting task. The Legislative Team at WACO is here to help you successfully understand the Washington Legislative process and the tools that are available to you and your county.

The WACO Legislative Team has over 60 years of combined experience in the legislature. Since 2015, WACO saw 27 bills successfully passed, seven successful proposals in 2019, and five in 2020. The year 2021 will bring 10 proposals which includes a cross-affiliate proposal

WACO hopes to meet the challenges of the 2021 Legislative Session, and part of that approach is making sure all members are equipped with the necessary tools needed to become successful in the legislative process. Thus, WACO is delighted to host a Legislative 101 Training on November 20th, 2020 at 10:00AM via Zoom.

Executive Director Jennifer Wallace and Deputy Director Timothy Grisham will lead WACO members through the following topics:

  • Overview of Legislature
  • Establishing and Maintaining Positive Legislative Relations
  • Concept to Governor's Desk – The Process
  • The Process – from concept to governor’s desk
    • Keep track of what’s going on – timing & tools
    • Meeting with legislators during session
    • Testifying before committees

When asked why WACO members should attend the training, Executive Director Wallace responded while WACO’s legislative team provides direct legislative advocacy for our members, it is also essential that legislators hear from county elected officials themselves.  Our Legislative 101 training provides the foundational knowledge and tools needed to establish and maintain positive legislative relationships and influence the outcome of the legislative process.”

Deputy Director Timothy Grisham echoed the importance of the training, stating “Legislative 101 gives you a base knowledge to understand the legislative process, and better advocate for your office.”

The training will be held on November 20th, 2020 from 10:00AM – 11:30AM via Zoom.
